Just back from the gig (missed the last bus, had to walk).

I'd forgotten just how much of an utter drug-den hell-hole that place was, horrible, small, dark, strange smells, populated by winos you'd cross the road to avoid. Amy was stood a few feet in front of me for a while before they went on and I didn't recognise her for ages - thought it was a random mis-shapen fat lass but it turned out she had a chunky jumper tied round her waist, just too dark in there to tell.

Being sober and alone I was of course far too much of a wuss to say hello, I'd like to hope she recognised me from Nottingham as a friendly face but wouldn't bet on it.

As for the gig, tiny crowd due to the complete and utter lack of publicity. Couldn't hear Amy too clearly, her vocals definitely added a sort of ephemeral layer to the music but it was impossible to isolate them. The Band themselves were a lot better than expected, there really is every chance they could become "the next big thing".

Set started about 11.15, ended 11.45, seemed a lot shorter.

Visually, Amy stood in the shadows (could have been anywhere in that place really!) doing a good impersonation of someone who thought being there was a really big mistake.

In a place with lights there's a definite photo opportunity - i.e. pics without the microphone stand in the way. I tried taking a couple of shots but it was just too dark even at iso1600, f2, stabilised. (Wasn't the kind of place you used flash!). Best of a very, very bad lot:

In summary, if you get a chance to go to one of these gigs you really should do it, just don't expect to hear a lot of Amy.

This may explain why (from twitter/facebook):
"Singing backing vocals for hatcham social tonight. Not feeling too great about it. Feel like it would be better without me up there."

Shame she feels that way Sad.

I just spotted that, tempting to sign up to twitter just so I can send her a "don't talk bollocks" message! She definitely did improve the sound up here, but her mic was just too quiet to have as big an effect as she could have had.
Really didn't look like she was enjoying herself too much though, but that might have been an image thing I suppose.
